Augsburg, 9 August 2018. The PATRIZIA KinderHaus-foundation is working with Dr. Auma Obama and her Sauti Kuu Foundation, which supports disadvantaged children and young people on their way to a self-sufficient life in Kenya. The PATRIZIA KinderHaus-Stiftung financed a building for the new training centre for children and young people in Alego, in Western Kenya, on the northern shore of Lake Victoria. Former US President Barack Obama recently opened the facility at the invitation of his sister.

"The new PATRIZIA KinderHaus in Kenya is a great example of our work in action", says Alexander Busl, Managing Director of the PATRIZIA KinderHaus-foundation: "With Sauti Kuu, we have a strong local partner that shares our philosophy. Like us, Auma Obama and her foundation are focusing on enabling a confident, autonomous path for children and young people through education, personal development and reliable structures".

In the newly opened training centre, the children and young people will find a wide range of continuing education resources and opportunities such as crafts and manual trades at the PATRIZIA KinderHaus as well as computer rooms, a library, vegetable gardens that are used for providing training in sustainable agriculture, living rooms and sports facilities.

Opening with Barack Obama
More than 1,000 guests, including government representatives from Kenya and Alexander Busl from the PATRIZIA KinderHaus-Stiftung, attended the opening ceremony with Barack Obama. "Meeting Barack Obama was, of course, a personal highlight", reports Busl on the opening. "His participation also shows the importance and significance that our partner’s work has for this particular region and the long-term, positive effects of educating local children".

The PATRIZIA KinderHaus-Stiftung will continue the cooperation with Auma Obama and the Sauti Kuu Foundation for the next 25 years – a joint promise for the future of children and young people in Alego.

The Kinderhaus in Kenya is the 16th project of the PATRIZIA KinderHaus-Stiftung worldwide. Since its formation in 1999, the foundation has financed Kinderhaus children’s homes in ten countries, particularly in various African countries, as well as in Peru and Nepal. In addition, the foundation has built four children’s homes in Augsburg, Munich and Hamburg. Overall, since its establishment, the foundation has now helped more than 200,000 children and young people worldwide.
