London, 8 September 2022: PATRIZIA SE, a leading partner for global real assets, has announced the strategic creation of a new Operating Partner model for its Europe and North America infrastructure equity team, along with the introduction of a newly created role of Head of Sustainable Transformation. The new organisational set up will help accelerate its commitment to sustainability and drive the financial and ESG performance of its investments by providing experienced leadership to its portfolio companies.
As part of this strategic move, PATRIZIA Infrastructure has strengthened its capabilities with the appointment of two new, full-time Operating Partners, Wessel Schevernels, who has moved internally, and Jean-François Willame, who joins from Cube Infrastructure. Aaron Scott has been appointed as Head of Sustainable Transformation, moving internally from his previous role as PATRIZIA’s Head of Strategy and Sustainability.
Graham Matthews, CEO Infrastructure at PATRIZIA SE, said: “This organisational change marks an important step in PATRIZIA’s real assets strategy and will help accelerate our growth to reach our mid-term ambition of EUR 20bn of infrastructure AUM over the next five years. By providing seasoned, strategic leaders to support our portfolio companies, we will be better placed to drive future performance and positive change across our investments.
“This trio of appointments is the next chapter of the growth story of PATRIZIA Infrastructure, which has made seven new hires since the acquisition of Whitehelm Capital at the beginning of the year. We are excited to be expanding our team with the best in the industry, broadening our capabilities, strengthening our expertise and enhancing value creation at an asset level.”
The new Operating Partner model will allow PATRIZIA Infrastructure to optimise performance and continue driving value creation and investment processes during a time when the business is growing its portfolio of investee companies.
The Operating Partners will play a key role in accelerating the growth of portfolio companies and serve as a liaison point with the investment team. Their responsibilities include driving a successful post-merger integration for new acquisitions, assessing and managing executive teams, and setting business objectives, through to assisting leadership teams in developing various operational strategies.
Wessel Schevernels will focus on economic infrastructure assets, bringing his extensive international corporate experience in energy, logistic and social infrastructure. Wessel moves internally at PATRIZIA Infrastructure, with his previous role being as Senior Director in the Europe and North America equity team.
Meanwhile, Jean-François Willame will work across digital infrastructure assets, providing a wealth of knowledge and 20 years of experience at c-suite level within the large telecom group, Proximus Group, and three years within the assets management industry. Building up its existing expertise and knowledge base, the appointment of Wessel Schevernels and Jean-François Willame will continue to strengthen PATRIZIA’s operational capabilities and ensure continued value creation for its investors.
As part of the new operating model, Aaron Scott moves internally to become PATRIZIA Infrastructure’s new Head of Sustainable Transformation. Recognising the centrality of ESG, Aaron will provide hands-on expertise to reach positive sustainable outcomes across PATRIZIA Infrastructure’s portfolio. The role will enable PATRIZIA Infrastructure to drive sustainable performance across its portfolio. This strategic focus on sustainability in PATRIZIA’s infrastructure business supports the company’s broader ESG strategy to achieve net zero carbon status across its corporate operations and real assets portfolio by 2040 or earlier.
Since the beginning of the year, PATRIZIA Infrastructure has completed three major investments in portfolio companies which include: Biomet, a bio-LNG producer near Milan, Norwegian energy-from-waste provider SAREN Energy, and Rancho Cordova, a fibre roll-out programme with SiFi Networks in California.
