- PATRIZIA-backed smart infrastructure partner for municipalities reaches key milestone following sustained organic growth and targeted acquisitions
- Platform milestone reflects PATRIZIA’s long-term strategy of investing in infrastructure supporting smarter, more sustainable cities
- Growth highlights increasing demand for urban infrastructure that enables digitalisation, energy efficiency and decarbonisation
Milan. Augsburg. London. 29 July 2026. CiviSmart, the Italian smart infrastructure platform managed by PATRIZIA, an investment manager in global real assets, has reached 500,000 light points under management across Italy.
The milestone marks a significant step in the development of one of Italy’s largest independent smart public lighting platforms and demonstrates PATRIZIA’s continued commitment to investing in infrastructure that supports more efficient and sustainable cities.
CiviSmart was established in 2025 through the integration of three smart public lighting operators - Ottima, Selettra and Atlantico - following PATRIZIA’s strategic entry into the Italian smart public lighting market in 2022. Since then, the platform has evolved through a combination of organic growth and targeted acquisitions, creating a scaled national platform serving municipalities across the country.
Over the past 18 months, under the leadership of CEO Riccardo Amoroso, CiviSmart increased the number of managed light points by 32%, from 380,000 at the beginning of 2025 to 500,000 today. Growth was driven by a balanced combination of organic expansion and selective M&A activity, reflecting the platform’s disciplined growth strategy.
Today, CiviSmart has a broad national footprint, with 45% of managed light points located in Southern Italy, 20% in Central Italy, and 35% in Northern Italy, including 15% in the North-East and 20% in the North-West.
More than half of the managed portfolio is equipped with remote monitoring and dimming systems, with approximately 20% managed through advanced point-to-point intelligent control technologies, helping municipalities improve energy efficiency, reduce operating costs and modernise critical urban infrastructure.
Beyond public lighting, CiviSmart has evolved into a broader smart infrastructure partner for municipalities, leveraging its installed base and long-term concession relationships to deliver additional urban infrastructure solutions. These include smart building and energy efficiency services, environmental monitoring, CCTV and intelligent video analytics, as well as support for wider urban electrification initiatives.
Smart public lighting forms part of PATRIZIA’s broader investment strategy in infrastructure supporting urban sustainability, digitalisation and the energy transition. As cities face growing pressure to modernise essential infrastructure, improve efficiency and reduce emissions, smart lighting is increasingly recognised as a critical enabling technology.
Riccardo Amoroso, CEO of CiviSmart, commented: “Reaching 500,000 managed light points is an important milestone in CiviSmart’s development and reflects the strength of our operating model and the dedication of our team. Over the past year, we have accelerated growth through a combination of organic expansion and selective acquisitions, while continuing to strengthen our technological capabilities and national presence. Public lighting is increasingly recognised as strategic urban infrastructure, and we remain focused on helping municipalities modernise their networks with innovative and sustainable technologies that allow to reduce costs for the citizens while allowing for a better service with lower environmental impact.”
Matteo Andreoletti, Head of Investment Management Infrastructure at PATRIZIA, commented: “CiviSmart’s growth demonstrates PATRIZIA’s ability to identify compelling infrastructure opportunities and build scaled platforms through active asset management. As municipalities increasingly seek integrated solutions to modernise essential infrastructure, we see significant long-term opportunities in smart infrastructure that support digitalisation, energy efficiency and decarbonisation. CiviSmart is a strong example of how we partner with businesses to create long-term value for investors while supporting more sustainable and resilient urban communities.
