The ideal candidate will be proactive, solution-focused and has experience in the field of Compliance and AML at an JFSA licensed entity and will be able to perform the tasks of a Compliance Officer and other supplementary compliance related roles as required from time to time. The candidate will be responsible for compliance with regulatory requirements within all Japanese business functions, which includes in- and out-bound capital streams, processes whilst maintaining stakeholder and investors’ expectations. The candidate will be committed to enhancing operational and financial effectiveness by reviewing, establishing, and updating effective governance structures as well as policies, procedures, and internal controls from time to time and as required by JFSA, MOF or other regulatory bodies.


This is a varied role and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Perform Compliance Officer role
  • Ensure continuous compliance with relevant regulatory obligations
  • Responsible for financial crime prevention
  • Maintain and update compliance & AML policies
  • Work together with global compliance team on group compliance topics
  • Develop, maintain and update compliance monitoring program and perform compliance tests
  • Perform KYC checks
  • Draft regular compliance and AML reports
  • Conduct compliance and AML risk assessments
  • Conduct compliance trainings for staff on local regulatory topics and deliver staff updates when required, also in conjunction with the group compliance team
  • Provide advice and support on compliance & AML related topics to the business and deal with compliance & AML day-to-day work (like gifts & entertainment approval requests)
  • Work on regulatory changes projects
  • Assist with KYC queries from counterparties
  • Act as liaison with MOF/JFSA and other relevant regulatory & enforcement bodies as appropriate and with internal and external audit
  • Take care of regulatory filings

Key Skills / Experience

  • Proven track record within compliance gained within real estate asset management, compliance consultancy or government bodies
  • Ability to implement solutions to address regulatory requirements
  • Sound knowledge of local regulations
  • Experience of compliance monitoring
  • Degree educated, ideally in law (or equivalent)
  • Understanding of corporate legal matters is of advantage
  • Excellent Japanese and English oral and written communication skills

Experience required

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a Japanese focused compliance role
  • Experience gained at a regulated firm as a compliance/regulatory consultant, at a law firm, Big4 or any specialist firm, or if relevant government body
